Many people always ask me how to wear big statement necklaces and wonder if they can pull them off, I think anyone can pull off any piece of jewelry. Start simple, let the piece speak for itself and pair it with an understated outfit. A solid t-shirt with jeans and either heels or flats, depending on the occasion, can make the necklace pop and is a great way to start wearing some bigger pieces of jewelry. Once you are more comfortable wearing the larger and intricate pieces then start wearing them with patterns and fun colors.

I chose a soft grey t-shirt, dark jeans and wedges for a dinner look. I prefer the Gap modern crew tee, they come in every color, sleeve length and are very comfortable. When dressing up your outfit pair heels and an evening clutch together to take the look into the evening hours. During the colder months, you can layer a basic blazer or jacket. Since my coin necklace is so large I chose to layer with rings and small stud earrings, this way nothing takes away from the necklace. Jewelry can make an outfit, you just have to be brave enough to put it on!

Nothing says summer like a bright floral print tank. Bold prints and bright colors are summer staples and with back to school just around the corner many of these styles are going on sale! There are still plenty of warm days headed our way so it’s the perfect time to buy. I think floral prints are the perfect accent for this season; they are flirty, fun and can be dressed up or down.

This tank could be combined with white shorts and a jean jacket for a casual night or paired with a skirt and heels for a dressier look. I wore it with jeans and lace up heels for casual Friday at work. I pulled the outfit together with gold bangles and rings, given the intricate nature of the neckline.

No matter the occasion, make summer more fun with your own prints, patterns and bright color palettes.

I believe in stripes for every season and this season its pink stripes. This boat neck stripe shirt from J.Crew has been a go to for me since I bought it. It’s easy, fun and can be dressed up with accessories. It is three-quarter length sleeves but is great with jeans on a brisk day or on a warmer day with shorts for a balanced summer look.

I like wearing my pink stripes with gold accents and a little sparkle. My necklace is also from J.Crew, it has a blush colored stone and hanging diamonds that dress up your casual look just a little. You could also wear a sparkly statement necklace and heels if you were wearing this for a late night look. On a cooler day or night pair with a jean jacket or cargo jacket.

Please note this shirt also comes in other colors so you can fill your closet with stripes for each season!

If I had to pick one color to incorporate into every outfit this summer it would be army green. I’ll take it any way I can get it; shorts, jeans, jackets, vests, button downs. It’s a basic muted shade of green that goes with a lot of other colors and can make you look tanner, instantly! I love pairing it with denim and white, like this outfit, or with a black and white striped shirt or dress.

Don’t be afraid to mix styles, pair your army green with an ivory lace top or skirt. Girly with a splash of masculine can really set your outfit apart. I always like to add metal accents; gold, silver or both look great with army green. Leopard is also a great neutral pattern to mingle in, try shoes like I did, or a handbag!

The weekend is upon most of us a little early this week, thanks to a certain holiday! Whether you are headed to the beach, the city or staying put don’t forget to pack all of your Americana apparel. My favorite look of the long weekend, chambray. Not only is denim blue, perfect for the theme of the weekend, it’s also a great neutral to pair all summer long. This easy and affordable shift dress has embroidered details and small cutouts in the back for a classic look with a twist. I paired the dress with black wedges, black large framed sunnies and a straw sun hat. Find some chambray to pull your Fourth of July look together!

Happy Fourth of July, have a safe holiday weekend!

Now that my skin is sun-kissed this season it’s time to bring out the white. Personally I feel much better when wearing white with a tan, so it’s the perfect start to summer! Whether you are wearing white bottoms, tops or both layering white on white looks great when the whites you are layering match. When one white is brighter or duller than the other it looks unfinished and less polished. This particular layering look can dress up a t-shirt and can also hide unloved areas of our body; arms and stomach. I like to add a fun pop of color in a necklace or shoes to offset the white and make it more summery. Neon accents also look fabulous with that summer tan!

Patriotic Props

IMG_0945Every year for the Fourth of July I am in charge of the table décor. Over the years I have tried many different themes and ideas, some relating to the patriotic holiday and some that are more summer focused. With Fourth of July weekend right around the corner, I am sharing one of my table settings from a few years ago. This particular table was red and white themed with touches of gingham and burlap. I like to look for ideas on Pinterest and maybe change the color schemes or focal points. I like to include sand, rocks, candles and flowers in some way for all of my tables. Our family usually eats outside so these elements look great on the beach or on the patio!

We prepare mostly traditional foods like grilled pizza or ribs followed by fruit pizza and fireworks. There is usually a favorite drink of the year, last year was big gingers and this year will probably be Moscow mules. We spend the day boating, swimming, sunning and playing games. The night ends with a bonfire and watching the fireworks. I love this cabin and family focused holiday, it’s a great way to celebrate the summer season. Have a safe and fun filled holiday, and may your table be beautiful!

Slouchy Tank

I have found the perfect front tuck slouchy tank for the summer. It comes in seven great colors, from basics to bolds to pastels, and it currently on sale. The neckline is great alone, it’s not too wide or low, or with a long necklace. I have been a big fan for front tucking anything and everything in the past few months. It’s a chic way of tucking without being uncomfortable or worrying about if your tuck is staying in place as you go about your day. This Madewell tank has two slits in the front and a rounded back hem that make it perfect for front tucking. You simply tuck each of the corners of the slits and you’re ready to head out the door. Whether you wear the tank with jeans, shorts or a skirt it is an easy look for summer. I’m thinking Red Rock or Heathered Clay will be joining my closet in the near future as well!

Cream of the Crop

The Crop Top: I know this is an almost impossible trend, not only to ignore, but to pull off. However, I think it can be done tastefully without your stomach hanging out and in moderation. Pair with high waisted jeans, short or maxi to create a long line and a more modest look. The lace hem on this crop top extends the top as well so it’s not so exposing. When paired with a maxi it can be a great casual look for parties or weddings as well as a day at the beach. You can also layer a crop top over a dress, maxi or regular, so that nothing shows and it then looks like seperates.

The Half Top Knot: This look can be risky for some people but always looks chic. I find that it is a great way to put up short hairstyles and still make it look like you have a style. I prefer to leave my bangs out but they could definitely be twisted back on a hot day or a day at the beach. I usually put my hair into a pony first, then tease the pony and wrap to create a bun (I like to use a tiny clip instead of a hair tie to secure it), teasing will make it look like you have a larger bun than you really do!
